CaSSOA stands for “The Caravan Storage Site Owners’ Association” and it is the UK’s recognised accreditation scheme for caravan and motorhome storage sites. Whilst it is not essential for a storage site owner to be associated with CaSSOA, it is an independent body who provide an independent assessment of the storage facilities, and this really helps caravan or motorhome owners to compare sites when they are looking. That way they can make an informed decision about where to store their vehicle based on the accreditation levels.

1. CaSSOA Accreditation Is Independently Assessed

One of the biggest advantages of CaSSOA Accreditation is that it isn’t something a storage site simply awards itself, you don’t just send off your money and receive a logo to use.

Once you contact CaSSOA, they will send an independent assessor to visit [at Barnfield we had our last assessment in July 2026] and this assessor will benchmark the site against their recognised standards:

• Perimeter Protection: The site should be fully enclosed with strong fencing and secure, lockable gates to help protect the vehicles stored within.
• Access Control: CaSSOA looks at how access to the site is managed, including who can enter and leave, whether barriers or electronic gates are used, and how visitors are supervised.
• Surveillance and Monitoring: Where CCTV is installed, the assessment considers how well it covers the site and how effectively it is monitored.
• Intruder Detection: Alarm systems and motion sensors are assessed to help identify any unauthorised access to the site.
• Safety and Site Protection: It’s not just about security. CaSSOA also considers areas such as fire safety, vermin control and how the site is protected against risks such as flooding or storm damage.
• Professional Site Management: Accreditation also looks at how the site is run behind the scenes, including management procedures, data protection, customer records and the storage agreements in place.

CaSSOA is not the only organisation involved in site security. Individual sites may also have things like Secured by Design, NSI-approved alarm systems, SSAIB installers or other security certifications, but these are security certifications, not storage accreditation schemes. They don’t assess the overall storage facility in the way CaSSOA does.
